The La Junta Tigers lost against the St. Mary's Pirates back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. La Junta was outmatched by St. Mary's at home and fell 71-28. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for La Junta in their matchups with St. Mary's: they've now lost nine in a row.
La Junta lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Isabelle Aragon, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Raquel Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with five rebounds.
La Junta dropped their record down to 2-16 with that loss, which was their seventh straight at home. As for St. Mary's, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. La Junta will challenge Florence at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. La Junta is facing Florence at the right time seeing as Florence is stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for St. Mary's, they will head out on the road to square off against Rye at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Rye will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 301st, while St. Mary's is ranked 78th).
