The Rio Linda Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. The contest between Rio Linda and Pioneer wasn't particularly close, with Rio Linda falling 34-16. Rio Linda was down 20-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Jayden Leytham threw for 54 yards and two touchdowns. Anthony Miralrio was his top target, picking up 32 receiving yards. On the ground, Samuel Taylor threw for 48 yards on eight of 17 attempts.
Pioneer got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Landon Dahler out in front who rushed for 93 yards and a touchdown. Devion Corley made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Rio Linda's loss was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 3-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.3 points per game. As for Pioneer, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Rio Linda does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pioneer will be playing in front of their home fans against Ceres at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
