Basketball Recap: Surry Central's Victory on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Surry Central had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They secured a 69-65 W over the West Stokes Wildcats. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 68-53 back in December of 2024.

Surry Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Damen Hazelwood, who went 8 for 12 on his way to 25 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Those 25 points gave Hazelwood a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tripp Mcmillen, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 boards.

Surry Central was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Surry Central pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. As for West Stokes, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-10.

Surry Central won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Elkin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Surry Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 17 matches -- so hopefully Elkin likes a good challenge. As for West Stokes, they also won't have to wait long for more action: they'll square off against T.W. Andrews at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. T.W. Andrews has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
