5A Region IV District 32 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Los Fresnos extended the longest winning streak in 5A Region IV District 32 this week by beating Lopez, 49-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Falcons.
Rivera moved up to 958 from 1,002 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 42-0 win over Pace helped the Raiders improve their standing.
Harlingen South's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Sean Montemayor threw for 102 and two touchdowns and Nick Garcia had 86 yards receiving. On the ground Jaedon Taylor chipped in 178 yards. Isaac Garcia helped Harlingen South's passing attack out by catching two balls for 34 yards.
Jonmichael Rosales provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Los Fresnos bested the Lobos. He completed nine passes for 169 yards and also ran for 27 yards. Rosales' favorite target this week was Akeem Simien, who caught two passes for 80 yards.
Jacob A. Villarreal made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Hawks defeated Porter. The junior racked up two sacks.
Clint Finley's team's Rosales and Jaime Mata have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rosales has thrown for 1021 yards this season, while Mata has 23 catches for 393 yards. Taylor from Harlingen South leads the league in rushing with 692 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region IV District 32 this week will be when Harlingen takes on the Falcons. The Cardinals are currently in fifth, while Los Fresnos is in third.
Rivera took down the Vikings 42-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
