After two games on the road, William Penn is heading back home. They will take on The St. Mark's Spartans at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Last Friday, William Penn faced Middletown in a battle between two of the state's top teams. William Penn's rough 35-13 loss to Middletown might stick with them for a while.
Meanwhile, St. Mark's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. The match between St. Mark's and Hodgson Vo-Tech wasn't particularly close, with St. Mark's falling 30-15.
Defeat or not, St. Mark's got some senior leadership from Logan Klein who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns and Caleb King who rushed for 130 yards while picking up 7.2 yards per carry.
William Penn's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 3-4. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-1 Salesianum (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66.7% over those games). As for St. Mark's, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Everything came up roses for William Penn against St. Mark's in their previous matchup back in November of 2014 as the team secured a 42-14 victory. Will William Penn repeat their success, or does St. Mark's have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
