It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but the Reed Raiders ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They managed a 76-72 win over Elko. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Reed's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josh Peterson, who scored 29 points. The game was Peterson's seventh in a row with at least ten points. Dominic Williams was another key contributor, scoring 28 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Elko still got an impressive performance from Preston Chamberlin, who dropped a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Chamberlin scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zj Benitez, who scored 17 points along with five assists.
Reed is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a massive bump to their 3-4 record this season. As for Elko, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 2-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Reed will take on Churchill County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Churchill County's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last four matchups. Elko won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Douglas at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th. Douglas is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 52.9 points per game.
