The Saltillo Tigers will square off against the Starkville Yellowjackets at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Saltillo is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 13 games.
Saltillo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Olive Branch 14-2 on Friday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Saltillo got a great performance from BEN MONAGHAN as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, MONAGHAN gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, JACK ADAMS and BAYLOR ROBERTS did most of the damage at the plate: ADAMS went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while ROBERTS went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI ADAMS has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of JACOB GORE, who went 1-for-3 with one home run.
Saltillo lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Starkville, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They never let Germantown get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Not much got past Jonas Coleman, who gave up just six hits to keep Germantown off the board. Coleman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Will Moody was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Torian Knox, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Saltillo's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for Starkville, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 12-8.
Saltillo might still be hurting after the 12-2 loss they got from Starkville when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Saltillo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
