The Villa Madonna Vikings will face off against the Calvary Christian Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Villa Madonna took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They walked away with a 6-3 victory over Ludlow. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Vikings as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian entered their tilt with Bellevue on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Tigers 13-5. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won five contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Cal Ruwe and Adam Curtis made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Ruwe didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over 4.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile, Curtis struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Ruwe scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4, while Curtis scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Curtis also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
In other batting news, Josh Ruwe was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, five RBI, and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Finn Zachary was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Calvary Christian kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Calvary Christian's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Villa Madonna, the victory got them back to even at 7-7-1.
Villa Madonna came out on top in a nail-biter against Calvary Christian in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
