William Campbell and Gretna are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2014, but not for long. The William Campbell Generals will be playing at home against the Gretna Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, William Campbell narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Dan River 24-22. The win was just what William Campbell needed coming off of a 47-17 defeat in their prior game.
Meanwhile, Gretna put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They really took it to Chatham for the full four quarters, racking up a 44-7 win at home. The win was familiar territory for Gretna who now have three in a row.
Gretna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Melvin Wooden out in front who threw for 287 yards and five touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes. Amare Gunn was another key contributor, picking up 171 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
William Campbell's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Gretna, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.
William Campbell came up short against Gretna in their previous matchup back in September of 2022, falling 32-28. Can William Campbell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
