This season hasn't been kind to the Lake Norman Charter Knights, who are still winless after their fifth matchup. They received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 51-34 to East Rowan. Lake Norman Charter was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as East Rowan apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.
Lake Norman Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Callie Genece, who dropped a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds. Genece scored a full 29.4% of Lake Norman Charter's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Reece Long was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with 6 rebounds.
Lake Norman Charter bumped their record down to 0-5 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. As for East Rowan, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lake Norman Charter will challenge Northwest Cabarrus at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest Cabarrus presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lake Norman Charter in North Carolina (Northwest Cabarrus is ranked 85th, while Lake Norman Charter is ranked 355th). As for East Rowan, they will head out on the road to face off against West Rowan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. West Rowan knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matches -- so hopefully East Rowan likes a good challenge.
