Two dominant players in Gabe Stevens and Robert Simpson are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Robertsdale Golden Bears will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against the Hillcrest Jaguars at 2:00 p.m. on January 17th. Robertsdale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Hillcrest is ranked 72nd).
Robertsdale suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They took a serious blow against Baldwin County, falling 67-31. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Robertsdale has scored all season.
Despite the defeat, Robertsdale got a solid performance out of Stevens, who scored 12 points along with six steals and five rebounds. That was a full 38.7% of Robertsdale's points, marking the sixth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Robertsdale struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Hillcrest waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins but they left with five. They snuck past Escambia County with a 65-59 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Robertsdale has not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season. As for Hillcrest, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-4.
