Baseball Recap: Babcock Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Babcock had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They beat The Classical Academy of Sarasota Patriots by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 16-1. Considering the Trailblazers have won five contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Brodie Hunter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Hunter was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, Babcock got a massive performance out of Paxton Cooper, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Cooper is becoming a predictor of Babcock's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Rayden Waletko, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI.

Babcock was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .478. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Babcock pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 11 hits in those games compared to only 4.83 in the others. As for The Classical Academy of Sarasota, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Babcock will host Sarasota Military Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Classical Academy of Sarasota will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Saint Stephen's Episcopal at 4:00 p.m. on March 20th.
