Basketball Recap: Wando Takes a Loss

Wando was the 52-40 winner over Socastee when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Wando Warriors lost 54-32 to the Socastee Braves on Saturday. While losing is never fun, the Warriors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while the Braves are ranked 23rd).

Despite the loss, Wando saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sully Templeton posted 14 points and seven rebounds. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for Templeton. The team also got some help courtesy of Tait Horine, who put up seven points.

It was another big night for Bryson Sams, who went 7 of 12 on his way to 15 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals for Socastee. Sams' afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Brown, who had eight points in addition to 14 rebounds and three steals.

Wando is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4. As for Socastee, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.

Wando wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 70-54 win against Philip Simmons on the 9th. As for Socastee, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 52-42 victory against Waccamaw on the 10th.
