After losing to the Corliss Trojans the last time they met, the Chicago Vocational Cavaliers decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Chicago Vocational blew past Corliss 69-34 at home. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-18.
Chicago Vocational's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ron Thigpen, who scored 27 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Thigpen has scored at least 25% of Chicago Vocational's points. Kendaro Cassidy was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 assists.
When it comes to explaining why Corliss lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kameron Gouard. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Gouard scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Joshua Pegues, who scored seven points.
Chicago Vocational pushed their record up to 3-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.3 points per game. As for Corliss, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Chicago Vocational will head out on the road to face off against Harlan at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Harlan comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Corliss, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Woodlawn at 4:30 p.m. Woodlawn is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
