After a string of five wins, Tarkington's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Lumberton Raiders by a score of 50-47. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Longhorns came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while the Raiders are ranked 785th).

Tarkington's loss ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 16-4. As for Lumberton, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tarkington and Galena Park will face off at 10:20 a.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Tarkington is facing Galena Park at the right time seeing as Galena Park is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lumberton, they will square off against Bridge City at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
