Basketball Recap: Porter Ridge Sets Scoring Season-High Against Monroe

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Porter Ridge). They took down the Monroe Redhawks 82-68 on Wednesday. That's more bragging rights for the Pirates, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Leading Porter Ridge to victory were Kali Williams and Ashanti Taylor. Williams went 13 of 16 en route to 29 points along with eight assists and eight boards, while Taylor posted 37 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals. That makes it 16 consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Porter Ridge's points. Another player making a difference was Molly Malcolm, who put up 11 points and six steals.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Porter Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Monroe lost, don't look at Janiyah Boyd. Despite the final result, she went 10 of 23 on her way to 30 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Boyd is crushing it when it comes to points: she's scored at least 18 every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sade Robinson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds.

Porter Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. As for Monroe, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-2.

Porter Ridge and Monroe should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Porter Ridge (ranked 58th) will meet Cuthbertson (ranked 367th) at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Porter Ridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, Monroe (ranked 126th) will meet Anson (ranked 478th) at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th.
