Madison Young was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one RBI.
In other batting news, Zoie Bernard was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Olivia Evans, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Houston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 16-8 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won five games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Lindsey Barnes, who went 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Skye Ebersole was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-5.
Houston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive contests.
St. Benedict at Auburndale has been performing well recently as they've won ten of their last 12 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. Houston now has a winning record of 6-5.
Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. St. Benedict at Auburndale hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like Houston struggles in that department as they've averaged .444. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went St. Benedict at Auburndale's way against Houston in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as St. Benedict at Auburndale made off with an 11-3 victory. Will St. Benedict at Auburndale repeat their success, or does Houston has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
