Baseball Recap: Freedom Takes a Loss

Freedom lost against Spoto back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Freedom fell just short of Spoto by a score of 8-7. Even though they lost, the Patriots' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.1 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Jacob Antle was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, David Simpkins made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Liam Harris was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

Even though they lost, Freedom was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. This was only their first loss (out of four games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Freedom has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-10 record this season. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. Spoto's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-9.

Looking ahead, Freedom will host Brandon at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Spoto, they are taking a road trip to challenge Bloomingdale at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Bloomingdale's pitching crew has only allowed 1.6 runs per game this season, so Spoto's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
