The Vero Beach Indians had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They took down Rockledge 48-33. That's another feather in the cap for Vero Beach, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Vero Beach found their leader in underclassman Ekklesia Anderson, who scored 11 points along with five assists and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Camryn Reid, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Rockledge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jaida Williams-Goins. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with five steals. That was a full 63.6% of Rockledge's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Rockledge struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Vero Beach now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Rockledge, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vero Beach and Merritt Island Christian will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Rockledge will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Eau Gallie at 6:00 p.m. on January 24th.
