The Wilby Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Derby Red Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The pair have had a bumpy ride up to this point with six consecutive losses for Wilby and 13 for Derby.
Last Tuesday, Wilby took a serious blow against Kennedy, falling 60-33.
Meanwhile, Derby was the victim of a tough 61-37 defeat at the hands of Kennedy on Friday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Derby in their matchups with Kennedy: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite the defeat, Derby saw an underclassman step up: Shea Gray scored 20 points along with two steals. That was a full 54.1% of Derby's points, marking the 14th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jerlena Alexander, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Wilby's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Derby, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-18.
Wilby was able to grind out a solid win over Derby when the teams last played back in January, winning 45-35. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Gray, who scored 26 points along with six rebounds and four steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Wilby still be able to contain Gray? There's only one way to find out.
