The Woden Eagles will venture away from home to challenge the Joaquin Rams at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Woden made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Colmesneil, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Woden never let Colmesneil get on the board and left with a 15-0 win on Friday. That looming 15-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Eagles yet this season.
Autumn Bridges and Carlie Lucas were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bridges pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Lucas pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. At the plate, Bridges scored a run while going 2-for-4, while Lucas scored three runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Bridges also brought in three RBI, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Woden got a massive performance out of Riley Taylor, who scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That run was Taylor's first of the season. Jolette Montoya was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Woden always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .784. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Joaquin waltzed into their game on Saturday with four straight wins... but they left with five. Everything went their way against the Panthers as they made off with a 15-0 victory. While the Rams didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-12-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Ke'Maria Wilson was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI.
Joaquin's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Woden, their record is now 3-4.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Woden hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .360. However, it's not like Joaquin struggles in that department as they've averaged .407. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Woden beat Joaquin 8-5 when the teams last played back in May of 2017. Will Woden repeat their success, or does Joaquin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
