Penn Jurgensen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. He also allowed no hits, which is notable because Van Arsdale is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 1-3 otherwise. Jurgensen was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, Van Arsdale got a massive performance out of Jackson Mui, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those hits were Mui's first of the season. Dilan Jitlal was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Van Arsdale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
A-Tech not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 30, 2025 (when they won 19-2). They blew past Erasmus Hall 16-4. With that victory, the Panthers brought their scoring average up to 7.3 runs per game.
Jovanny Frias made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Caleb Diaz was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Justin Rivera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Van Arsdale's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for A-Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 5-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Van Arsdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like A-Tech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 13.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Van Arsdale couldn't quite get it done against A-Tech in their previous meeting back in March as they fell 7-3. Will the Cardinals have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
