Portville is a perfect 10-0 against Ellicottville since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Portville took a nine-run defeat the last time they faced off against Gowanda, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Portville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Gowanda back in April. Seven seems to be a good number for Portville as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Ellicottville waltzed into their game on Saturday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Bobcats with a sharp 15-4 win.
AJ Myers was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Myers was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rylan Benjamin was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Ellicottville is 2-1 when Benjamin posts two or more runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Merek Peters was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Ellicottville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in May of 2024.
Ellicottville pushed their record up to 6-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Portville, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
Portville took their victory against Ellicottville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 20-0 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Eagles turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
