Even though the Campbell Spartans scored an imposing 66 points on Saturday, the Palm Bay Pirates still came out on top. Palm Bay took their matchup against Campbell 73-66. Given Palm Bay's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked eighth in Florida, while Campbell is ranked 48th in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Palm Bay to victory were Jaida Civil and Kiara Williams. Civil scored 23 points along with eight rebounds and three steals, while Williams dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Williams also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Natalie Allen was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Campbell still got an impressive performance from Brooke Suttle, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Suttle scored a full 37.9% of Campbell's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Saniya Binion, who scored 18 points.
Palm Bay is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Campbell, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Palm Bay will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against West Shore at 7:00 p.m. on January 11th. As for Campbell, they will challenge Carrollton at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
