Curlew has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Mary Walker Chargers at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Curlew ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Selkirk and snuck past 59-57. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Logan Thompson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 34 points along with eight rebounds and six steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Logan Ringstad, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mary Walker can now show off seven landslide victories after their most recent contest on Wednesday. They blew past Columbia 57-34. The win was just what Mary Walker needed coming off of a 79-58 defeat in their prior contest.
Teko Cates was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times he's played. Andru Pinyan was another key contributor, almost dropping a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds.
Curlew's record now sits at 7-13. Mary Walker's record now sits at 12-8.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Curlew have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.2 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mary Walker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 41.7 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Curlew took a serious blow against the Chargers in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 87-58. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Cates, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Curlew knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
