Softball Recap: Portsmouth Wins Going Away Against Lincoln

Portsmouth barely beat Lincoln the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Patriots were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the Lions on Tuesday. Considering the Patriots have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Mia Ruggieri made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off nine hits. Ruggieri was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lilly Morgado was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaylyn Aubuchon, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Portsmouth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

The victory got Portsmouth back to even at 10-10. As for Lincoln, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-8.

Looking ahead, Portsmouth will welcome South Kingstown at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. The Rebels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.05 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. Lincoln does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
