The Enid Plainsmen lost against the Edmond Memorial Bulldogs back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Enid was beaten by Edmond Memorial 65-26. While losing is never fun, Enid can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while Edmond Memorial is ranked seventh).
Edmond Memorial was led to victory by Janiyah Williams and Avery Hjelmstad. Williams scored 19 points along with four steals, while Hjelmstad scored 21 points. Hjelmstad has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last eight times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addy Johnson, who scored six points along with five steals.
Enid has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-13 record this season. As for Edmond Memorial, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-3.
Enid and Owasso will face off on February 10th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The timing is sure in Owasso's favor as the squad sits on four straight wins at home while Enid has been banged up by six consecutive losses on the road. As for Edmond Memorial, they will square off against Union at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Edmond Memorial is coming into the game with eight straight victories on the road, so Union is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
