Softball Recap: Make It Six in a Row for Ponchatoula

Ponchatoula entered their tilt with Lakeshore on Saturday with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. They came out on top against Lakeshore by a score of 11-8. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Green Wave also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2025.

Lillian Virga made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Abby Dagro and Rae'El Wheat did most of the damage at the plate: Dagro went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Wheat went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Paityn Lancaster, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one triple.

Ponchatoula kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive games.

Ponchatoula's win bumped their record up to 17-5. As for Lakeshore, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 13-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ponchatoula will square off against Northlake Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Green Wave 3.5, the Wolverines 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Lakeshore, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Scholastica at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
