Greeneville has gone 8-2 against Claiborne recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Greene Devils are taking a road trip to challenge the Bulldogs at 5:30 a.m. Greeneville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Greeneville was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Salem on Friday. The Greene Devils put the hurt on the Quakers with a sharp 10-4 win. Considering the Greene Devils have won ten contests by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jamie Jackson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kyla Jobe, who went 2-for-3 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Gabby Atchison was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
Greeneville was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 9-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Claiborne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 11-1 to Union County.
Claiborne saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kinley Mullins, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
The victory got Greeneville back to even at 13-13. As for Claiborne, they now have a losing record of 6-7.
Claiborne's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greeneville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. It's a different story for Claiborne, though, as they've only averaged .254. Will they be able to contain Greeneville's hitters?
Greeneville skirted past Claiborne 7-5 when the teams last played on April 1st. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Greene Devils since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
