The Rock Canyon Jaguars will head out to challenge the Chaparral Wolverines at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rock Canyon is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Rock Canyon lost 9-3 to Mountain Vista on Wednesday.
Kaden Montz made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Chaparral waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 2-1 W against the Eagles.
Ryne Dodson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Dodson was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
In other pitching news, Tommy Humphrey tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.
Dodson wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jake Barrows, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Chaparral's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 6-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Rock Canyon hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Chaparral struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Everything went Rock Canyon's way against Chaparral in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Rock Canyon made off with a 13-3 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
