The Monroe Catholic Rams are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the West Valley Wolf Pack at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Monroe Catholic put up the most runs they have all season on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 17-11 margin over Hutchison. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Hawks: they've now won five in a row.
Anya Chernich made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and ten unearned) runs off four hits. Chernich was even better at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and five RBI.
In other batting news, Leyton Cortez was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Another player making a difference was Myana Rojas, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one double, and one RBI.
Monroe Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .759. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, West Valley faced North Pole in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Wolf Pack were the clear victors by an 18-3 margin over the Patriots. That looming 18-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Wolf Pack yet this season.
The team relied heavily on Madison Inderrieden, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Anderson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles.
West Valley's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 3-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.3 runs over those games. As for Monroe Catholic, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Monroe Catholic suffered a grim 20-11 defeat to West Valley in their previous matchup back in May of 2022. Can the Rams avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
