In what's become a running theme this season, the Cortez Colts gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 74-54 margin over Vista Grande. The victory was nothing new for Cortez as they're now sitting on three straight.
Cortez's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ulysses Espinoza led the charge by scoring 27 points along with three steals. Espinoza has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Devan Fowler, who scored 25 points.
Despite the loss, Vista Grande still got an impressive performance from Wade Eshom, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Eshom is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last 11 games he's played. Thomas Ortega jr was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Cortez is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. As for Vista Grande, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-17.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cortez will face off against Tempe at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Vista Grande will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Coronado at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th.
