Copley is 8-2 against the Blue Devils since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Copley Indians will head out on the road to take on the Tallmadge Blue Devils at 1:00 p.m. Copley is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games.
Waynedale typically has all the answers at home, but on Wednesday Copley proved too difficult a challenge. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Golden Bears and snuck past 48-46. Given Copley's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Golden Bears are ranked 65th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Izzy Callaway was her usual excellent self, scoring 19 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Copley's points. Another player making a difference was Kami Ayoup, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Tallmadge had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four last Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Roosevelt 44-41. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory Tallmadge has posted against the Rough Riders since January 27, 2021.
Copley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-2 record this season. As for Tallmadge, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7.
Everything went Copley's way against the Blue Devils in their previous meeting back in January as the Indians made off with a 67-46 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Copley since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
