Big North - Independence recap November 5, 2013
Pascack Valley extended the longest winning streak in Big North - Independence this week by beating Ramapo, 42-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Pascack Valley was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping the Raiders. Craig Nielsen's team came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 26 last week.
Jorge Cortes provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Indians beat Ramapo. Cortes' key target this week was Steve Farrell, who caught 3 passes for 57 yards.
Cortes was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 22 carries, he ran for 146 yards as Pascack Valley lost to Pascack Valley. Teammate Rocco Swatek added to the ground attack by rushing for 59 yards.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Raiders' Sean Dougherty and Goldschrafe have proven to be a lethal combination. Dougherty has thrown for 1,947 yards this season, while Goldschrafe has 39 catches for 634 yards. Hassan Evans from Bergenfield leads the league in rushing with 669 yards.
Going into this week's game against St. Joseph Regional, Ramapo's Dougherty needs 53 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
An important game coming up in Big North - Independence this week will be when Passaic Valley takes on the Bears. The Hornets are in third place, while Bergenfield is in fourth place.
The Raiders fell to the Indians 42-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Keith Woetzel threw for 48 yards and 1 touchdown in the loss.
