Brunswick and Mentor are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Blue Devils will face off against the Cardinals at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Wednesday, Brunswick made easy work of Shaker Heights and carried off a 15-6 victory. The win continues a trend for the Blue Devils in their matchups with the Red Raiders: they've now won nine in a row.
Nolan Burke looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Connor Adams was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Gavin Moore, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Brunswick always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .587. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Mentor got the win against Kenston on Tuesday by a conclusive 12-5.
Jacob Gunvelson looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Austin Vanhuss was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Jack Vanhimbergen was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Brunswick's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Mentor, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Brunswick came up short against Mentor in their previous matchup on Thursday, falling 4-0. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
