The Axtell Wildcats will be playing in front of their home fans against the Loomis Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Axtell is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Axtell was not the first on the board last Friday, but they got there more often. They snuck past Kenesaw with a 12-8 win.
Elijah Bergstrom continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Bergstrom was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards.
Loomis fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They took down Bertrand 38-20 on Friday.
Loomis found their leader in underclassman Cauy Meyer, who rushed for 202 yards and two touchdowns, and also threw for 43 yards and a touchdown. Meyer is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last eight games he's played. Cale Nelson was another key contributor, rushing for 18 yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Axtell to 6-2 and Loomis to 4-4.
Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Axtell has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 236.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Loomis struggles in that department as they've been averaging 159.9 per game. It's looking like Thursday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Axtell was taken down by Loomis 48-12 when the teams last played back in October of 2021. Will Axtell have more luck at home instead of on the road?
