3A Region III District 22 recap Oct. 9, 2012
Coldspring-Oakhurst was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fifth to third in 3A Region III District 22. Earlier in the week, the Trojans triumphed over Tarkington 51-0.
Hargrave led the league in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on Liberty.
Cleveland's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Chris Taylor threw for 213 yards and Trent Wills had 151 yards receiving. On the ground Brandon Foster chipped in 40 yards. Francisco Gonzales helped Cleveland's passing attack out by catching two balls for 36 yards.
The Falcons' Preston Townley and Cole Harrell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Townley has thrown for 1117 yards this season, while Harrell, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 18 catches for 390 yards. The Indians' Foster leads the league in rushing yards with 382.
The top two teams in 3A Region III District 22 will face off this week when first place Cleveland takes on second place Hargrave. Cleveland bested Splendora last week, while Hargrave defeated the Panthers.
There should be lots of points scored when Clayton Maple's team and Mike McEachern's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Indians comes in having scored 169 this season, while the Falcons have scored 163. Cleveland scored 28 points last week as it topped the Wildcats.
The Longhorns made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 8,559 from 8,885. The improvement came about via a 51-0 victory over Tarkington last week.
