The Bridgeport Bulldogs had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 51.5 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. They blew past Alma 70-20 at home. The result was nothing new for Bridgeport, who have now won seven matchups by 34 points or more so far this season.
Peyton Abbott continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 258 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry, and also picking up 34 receiving yards. Abbott is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last seven games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nikolas Weibert, who rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries.
Bridgeport's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Landon Dean and his three sacks.
Despite the loss, Alma saw an underclassman step up: Zavier Mitchell picked up 138 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Bridgeport's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 7-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.0 points per game. As for Alma, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season.
Bridgeport will head out on the road to face off against Crofton at 3:00 p.m. on October 27th. One thing working in Crofton's favor is that they have now posted big point totals in their last six contests. Alma does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
