The Clarkrange Buffaloes and the Watertown Purple Tigers will round out the year against one another at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at. Clarkrange is hoping to put an end to an 11-game streak of away losses dating back to last season.
Clarkrange pushed their score all the way to 78 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Jellico on the road by a decisive 95-78 margin. Despite running the score up even higher than they did last Friday (70), Clarkrange still had to take the loss.
Despite their loss, Clarkrange saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jack Cordell, who scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, was perhaps the best of all. The match was Cordell's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kristopher Beaty, who scored 27 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Watertown's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 58-40 bruising from DeKalb County. While losing is never fun, Watertown can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 387th, while DeKalb County is ranked 193rd).
Clarkrange's loss dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Watertown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-9.
Clarkrange strolled past Watertown in their previous matchup back in November of 2017 by a score of 59-42. The rematch might be a little tougher for Clarkrange since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
