Mayfield is on a 16-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Beechwood is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Mayfield Cardinals will take on the Beechwood Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
With a playoff game on the line, Mayfield rose to the challenge on Friday. Everything went their way against the Eagles as they made off with a 58-36 win. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
Meanwhile, Beechwood's offense rose to the challenge against a Cardinals defense that boasted an average of only 15.92 points allowed. Beechwood took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 55-0 victory over Martin County. Given Beechwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky football rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while Martin County is ranked 111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Clay Hayden was his usual excellent self, throwing for 300 yards and six touchdowns while completing 94.4% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Tyler Fryman, who picked up 89 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Their wins bumped Mayfield to 11-1 and Lexington Christian to 11-2.
Mayfield and Beechwood were almost perfectly matched up in their previous meeting back in December of 2022, but Mayfield suffered an agonizing 14-13 loss.
