Bunnell hasn't had much luck against New Milford recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Green Wave at 4:15 p.m. Bunnell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Bunnell's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Stratford with a sharp 8-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Red Devils since May 23, 2022.
The result came thanks to Leilani Navarro's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 15 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kira Bryant was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Caramanica, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Bunnell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, New Milford entered their tilt with Joel Barlow on Friday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They blew past the Falcons 17-0. The Green Wave's pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.
Nea Plisko made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Plisko was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
In other batting news, New Milford got a massive performance out of Lilly Fortier, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. What's more, Fortier posted two hits, the most she's had since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cienna McNamara, who fired off two home runs, three runs, and one stolen base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
New Milford pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Bunnell, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Bunnell has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Milford struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.9 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Bunnell suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to New Milford when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
