It was a good run, but the Grace Christian Warriors unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 44-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of Roanoke Catholic. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Grace Christian came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while Roanoke Catholic is ranked 236th).
Grace Christian's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Aubrey Greenmun, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds. Lucy Wells was another key contributor, scoring five points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.
Mickie O?Herron was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds for Roanoke Catholic. That makes it three consecutive games in which O?Herron has scored at least a third of Roanoke Catholic's points. Another player making a difference was Amara Ezigbo, who scored 11 points.
Grace Christian's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-3. As for Roanoke Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-6.
Grace Christian will look to defend their home court on Friday against Ridgeview Christian at 6:00 p.m. Grace Christian is coming into the match with five straight losses at home, meaning Ridgeview Christian will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. As for Roanoke Catholic, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Southwest Virginia HomeSchool at 5:00 p.m. on February 1st.
