HOLLY SPRINGS, N.C. - A big 26-point first quarter helped carry the Golden Hawks to a 48-14 victory over Cary (N.C.) on Saturday.
Holly Springs scored on a
D.j. Cornish touchdown run, a touchdown run by
Jordan Kornegay, a
Will Forrestal touchdown pass to Kornegay and a
Trey Staten touchdown run in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter, HS led 40-15 at the half.
The Golden Hawks expanded their lead to 32 points entering the fourth quarter. Holly Springs scored once in the quarter on a touchdown run by Staten.
HS entered the contest giving up 26.8 points per game this year. The Golden Hawks held firm on the defensive front, and kept the Imps well below the 23.7 points it had been averaging per game.
The win brought Holly Springs' winning streak to four games.
Holly Springs (4-3) will play a 4A Conference 13 game against Middle Creek next week, while Cary (2-5) will take on Apex also in a 4A Conference 13 game.
