Cheyenne Mountain has gone a perfect 5-0 against Rampart recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Red-Tailed Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Rams at 10:00 a.m. Cheyenne Mountain has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Cheyenne Mountain is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Colorado's top teams: Lewis-Palmer, who was ranked 17th at the time (Cheyenne Mountain was ranked eighth). The Red-Tailed Hawks came up short against the Rangers on Thursday, falling 16-5. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 28, 2022, but that streak is no more.
Noah Reickert was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jansen Roberts, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rampart). They put the hurt on Liberty with a sharp 17-6 victory on Saturday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Rams with their most commanding win of the season.
Liam Martin and Justus Derickson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Martin struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Derickson pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Rampart is undefeated when Martin allows two or fewer earned runs, but 0-8 otherwise. At bat, Martin went 4-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles, while Derickson went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those two doubles gave Martin a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Will Jackson, who went 4-for-5 with three runs and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Vince Carpio was another key player, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
Rampart always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Cheyenne Mountain's defeat ended a nine-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-3-1. As for Rampart, their win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 3-8.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Cheyenne Mountain has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. However, it's not like Rampart struggles in that department as they've averaged .459. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Cheyenne Mountain was able to grind out a solid victory over Rampart in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, winning 8-3. Will the Red-Tailed Hawks repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
