Northeast Guilford pushed their score all the way to 57 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a serious blow against Carlisle, falling 86-57. While losing is never fun, Northeast Guilford can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 389th in North Carolina, while Carlisle is ranked 55th in Virginia).
The losing side was boosted by Dennis Fountain, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Alijah White was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, NCSSM: Durham earned a 54-44 victory over Research Triangle on Tuesday.
It was another big night for Ethann Burkett, who scored 26 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Arthur Zhao, who scored 17 points.
Northeast Guilford has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season. As for NCSSM: Durham, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.
Wednesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Northeast Guilford have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 40% of their threes per game. It's a different story for NCSSM: Durham, though, as they've only nailed 35.5% of their threes per game this season.
