This season hasn't been kind to the Crawfordsville Athenians, who are still winless after their ninth contest. They took a 39-23 bruising from South Putnam on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Crawfordsville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 370th, while South Putnam is ranked 179th).
Despite the defeat, Crawfordsville saw an underclassman step up: Yuli Torres scored 8 points. Torres scored a full 34.8% of Crawfordsville's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Crawfordsville bumped their record down to 0-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 20.3 points per game. As for South Putnam, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-2.
Crawfordsville will head out on the road to face off against Lebanon at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lebanon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Monday. As for South Putnam, they will be playing in front of their home fans against North Putnam at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully North Putnam focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
