The Lyons Lions will square off against the Akron Rams at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lyons has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 496 points over their last nine matchups.
Lyons can now show off nine landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Belleview Christian 64-8 on the road. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-8.
Miles Dumbauld and Malik Sigg-Brown were among the main playmakers for Lyons as the former threw for 116 yards and two touchdowns and the latter rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Sigg-Brown was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Another big playmaker for Lyons was Finn Oetting, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Akron really took it to Caliche for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-6 victory at home. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Akron had established a 39 point advantage.
It was another big night for Anderson Filla, who rushed for 172 yards and four touchdowns on only ten carries. Filla is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jakzon Livesay, who rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns.
Lyons' win was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Las Animas and 1-7 Justice (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 39.2% over those games). As for Akron, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
Lyons took a serious blow against Akron in their previous meeting back in November of 2020, falling 48-14. Can Lyons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
