After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Panther Creek, the Apex Cougars were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 48-30 victory over Sanderson. Given Apex's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 241st, while Sanderson is ranked 484th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Isabella Pease was her usual excellent self, scoring 15 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. She hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Richardson, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and six assists.
Summer Haith and Amyah Lynn certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Haith scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Lynn scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. That was a full 43.3% of Sanderson's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Sanderson struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Apex racked up 15 assists.
Apex's win bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Sanderson, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-11.
Apex will look to defend their home court on Friday against Middle Creek at 5:30 p.m. Middle Creek is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last ten games. As for Sanderson, they will head out on the road to square off against Athens Drive at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Athens Drive focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday.
