Softball Recap: St. Paul's Episcopal Wins Going Away Against Citronelle

St. Paul's Episcopal was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against Citronelle on Thursday. The Saints were the clear victors by a 14-3 margin over the Wildcats. Considering the Saints have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ava Voris made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Emily Lockhart was a standout: she scored four runs and stole six bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Fancy Malone was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.

St. Paul's Episcopal always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .543. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Paul's Episcopal moved to 8-9 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Citronelle, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-13.

St. Paul's Episcopal and Citronelle could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings. The Saints (ranked 179th) will meet Saraland (ranked 37th) at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Citronelle will square off against Baker at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (245 vs. 25).
