The Chowchilla Tribe came tearing into Tuesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 69-50 win over Dos Palos. Given Chowchilla's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 531st, while Dos Palos is ranked 1337th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Chowchilla was led to victory by Ryan Deatherage and Khaled Escheik. Deatherage scored 18 points along with nine rebounds and five assists, while Escheik scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Deatherage has scored at least 25% of Chowchilla's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Beardsley, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Dos Palos lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacquez Jones. Despite the final result, he scored 18 points. Jones scored a full 36% of Dos Palos' points, the fourth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Sixto Ibarra was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Dos Palos struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Chowchilla pulled down 18 offensive rebounds.
Chowchilla pushed their record up to 9-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Dos Palos, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chowchilla will be home for the holidays to greet Le Grand at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Dos Palos will be home for the holidays to greet Farmersville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
